Dronira brought 650 drones above the Santorini caldera for Ifaisteia 2026, creating the largest drone show ever organised by a municipality in Greece, inspired by the island’s history, culture, and volcanic identity.
For the second consecutive year, Drônira returned to the Cyclades for Ifaisteia 2026, delivering a large-scale Santorini drone show above one of the world’s most recognisable natural landscapes. On 19 September 2026, 650 drones transformed the sky above the caldera into a vast aerial canvas, making it the largest drone show ever organised by a municipality in Greece. The visual narrative of this Santorini drone show drew inspiration from significant cultural symbols, including the Boxer Fresco and Blue Monkeys Fresco from prehistoric Akrotiri, an ancient amphora, the historic cable car, Cycladic architecture, and the island’s volcanic landscape. The climax recreated the power of the volcanic eruption, with 650 drones synchronised with fireworks above the Aegean, bringing light, movement, and storytelling together on a monumental scale. Organised by GEOTHIRA M.A.E. in collaboration with the Municipality of Thira and the Loula and Evangelos Nomikos Foundation, Ifaisteia 2026 demonstrated how a drone light show in Santorini can serve as a contemporary cultural medium, presenting local history to an international audience through an unforgettable visual experience.
